Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Powell completed his undergraduate education at Columbia University and earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Duke University. Dr. Powell began his career serving patients at the Florida Community Health Center and later completed a fellowship in nephrology at Emory University in Atlanta. He then relocated to Greensboro with his family, where he practiced at Carolina Kidney Associates.
Dr. Powell has held several leadership roles within the Cone Health system, including President of the Medical and Dental Staff, Chief Medical Officer at Annie Penn Hospital, and Chief Health Equity Officer.
