The ribbon cutting ceremony brought together local leaders, partners, and community members to mar this important milestone for TAPM. Speakers included Cyril Jefferson, Mayor of High Point; Chris Shank, President and CEO of North Carolina Community Health Center Association; and Kevin Cain, Senior Associate Dean at High Point University’s Workman School of Dental Medicine. Each shared their support for expanding access to pediatric dental care and commended TAPM for its commitment to community health.

TAPM Dental offers a full range of pediatric dental services including routine check-ups and X-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, tooth extractions, and more. The practice accepts Medicaid and PHP plans, private insurance, and offers a sliding fee scale for uninsured patients, ensuring that all children can access the care they need.

Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Powell completed his undergraduate education at Columbia University and earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Duke University. Dr. Powell began his career serving patients at the Florida Community Health Center and later completed a fellowship in nephrology at Emory University in Atlanta. He then relocated to Greensboro with his family, where he practiced at Carolina Kidney Associates.

Dr. Powell has held several leadership roles within the Cone Health system, including President of the Medical and Dental Staff, Chief Medical Officer at Annie Penn Hospital, and Chief Health Equity Officer. He is also visiting faculty with the Disparities Leadership Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and has participated in international medical missions to Haiti and Honduras.

As a child, Dr. Powell received medical care at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Boston—an experience that inspired his dedication to community health. Now, he brings that journey full circle as he joins TAPM in Greensboro.

In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Dr. Powell will also be providing direct patient care, seeing adult patients with chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and internal medicine needs.
